You will need:

2 good sized tubs with good ventilation
Egg carton
Oats
Dried out bread (not mouldy.)
Fruit, veg (scraps are fine)

The time to begin is when mealworms turn into pupae.

Sprinkle some oats onto the bottom of one of your tubs as substrate and add the pupae. Leave until they turn turn into beetles.

Remove the beetles and add to another tub. This should also have oats on the bottom as substrate. Add an eggshell carton to the tub, this is for the beetles to hide under. Add some dry bread, they will lay their eggs here. Add some veg or fruit for the beetles to eat. Check regurarly and do not allow the bread or veg to become too moist and to turn mouldy.

The beetles will turn brown and then lay their eggs into the bread, which will hatch into baby mealworms Smile

How long do the eggs take to hatch ?

Just thinking about what you said regarding the bread going mouldy.

What temperature is best? How low can you let them go?

Is there any smell?

cheers

John
